Dear 3rd Grade Families,
Thank you veterans! We hope you enjoyed today’s performance and we thank you for your service! Students are already looking forward to Great American Teach In. Thank you to all of our volunteers. See you Wednesday! We are really hitting our groove and students impress us every day with how much they have learned in such a short time and with their excitement to learn as well! Now that they have become familiar with the curriculum and procedures, we are working on building stamina and developing time management. You can read some great tips that we will use in our classrooms and that can be mirrored at home here: http://www.scilearn.com/blog/teaching-persistence-how-to-build-student-stamina and http://mamaot.com/tips-for-teaching-kids-time-management-planning-and-organization/ Thank you to our Fun Friday parents! We will schedule more days closer to January. Below is our current schedule: Date: Parent Volunteer 1 Parent Volunteer 2 11/18 Mrs. Hernandez Mrs. Armstrong 12/2 Mrs. Stegura Mrs. Glaser 1/13 Mr. Manninen Ms. Jones 1/27 Mrs. Aja Mrs. Michaud Homework and class info for next week: This week in ELA: (English Language Arts/Reading & Writing) We are continuing Unit 2 - Module C. The students will be reading folktales, fables, and other stories. We will be learning and practicing finding the central message/lesson or moral and explaining how we know through key details. In writing we will continue learning how to write opinion essays. For homework the students will have 2 reading logs, social studies, and spelling activities. Please help students out by checking over their work for completion when you sign off on the Parent Signature box. Thank you for your help with this-you are appreciated! Spelling words & activities: http://sawyertracy.weebly.com/spelling.html This week in Math: In math we will continue discussing area, graphs, all old material, addition and subtraction, rounding, estimating sums, 3-digits, inverse operations to check work, addition patterns, and using partial products to subtract (Feel free to access Pearsonrealize.com and take a look at those lessons.) Please continue practicing multiplication facts at home and consider things like multiplication.com as an additional resource. Thanksgiving Break might be a terrific time to practice on a plane or in a car if you are traveling! This week’s Tenmarks HW assignment is “Length, Width, and Area.” Thursday night’s math homework will be online under assignments at Pearsonrealize.com. Students should look for the lesson number 6-7 that night and do only that assignment. This week in Social Studies: We will be doing a unit wrap-up project and unit quizzes that will take us through Thanksgiving Break. Remember, there is an ELA/SS homework sent home each Monday that has replaced a Reading Log entry. It will be due each Wednesday. This week in Science: We are continuing with Physical Science. We will be finishing light energy with a quiz next Tuesday 11/15. We will be moving onto heat energy after that. Textbook pages 480-484. The online edition that I found does not have the Energy Unit, however there is a great review of this lesson available online at https://www.macmillanmh.com/science/2009/student/ga/grade3/g3_ch12.html The online edition of the textbook does not align exactly, so please look at the table of contents to find corresponding pages for future lessons. http://www.glencoe.com/ebooks/science/9780022877446/ This week in Health: Students will be learning about Type I and Type II diabetes, the body’s use of insulin, and the link between Type II and unhealthy eating.
