UPDATE:
Good afternoon 3rd grade families,
19 school days left! It's hard to believe that we are in the last 4 weeks of school. As we continue moving forward in completing our school year, there is still learning and important testing going on. Please remember that teachers still must complete county portfolio assessments for those students who have NOT passed four portfolio assessments, end of year testing, projects, 4th quarter grades, and continue to prepare your child for the fourth grade. In the past few weeks we have seen an increase in unexcused absences and student motivation. Let's all work together to make it the best 19 days of 3rd grade. We are looking forward to our Battle of the Books competition, Olympic Opening Ceremonies, Biography Book Projects, Nature's Academy Field Trip, Scoops of Success, and much more. Thank you for helping us by getting your child to school each day prepared with a mindset to learn. We can finish this school year successfully together!!
Action Needed: Are you returning to Plato Academy Clearwater next year? There are several 3rd Grade families that have not yet responded to Mrs. Parker. At your earliest convenience, please email her at [email protected] to confirm enrollment or to let her know if your family has other plans.
Congratulations to all of our Battle of the Books competitors! On Monday, May 1, we will be competing with students from the other north county Plato Academy campuses. Arshia, Jillian, Leland, and Deana will be representing the Clearwater campus. Our battle will begin at approximately 12:15 and all are welcome to attend! Please send in 50 cents (or 1.00 and we can send home change) for the ice cream celebration after the battles. Thanks!
Also, if your child is not reading a Battle of the Books book for their reading project, please ensure that the book that was checked out to them is returned as soon as possible.
Our Plato Academy Opening Olympic Ceremonies are on Monday, May 8th. The students have been working very hard on a special dance and we would love to have you there. Each student should wear a plain green tshirt with their uniform bottoms on this day.
Please see the agenda and below for this week’s important dates and deadlines.

This week in Math: We will continue to review Topic 16 and there is extra credit offered on Pearson for next week's quiz. Since half of our students did not complete Tenmarks this past week, it will instead be completed during class this week and will be counted as a quiz grade. We still have 3+ weeks of learning left before we take 2 months for a brain break. We are making every day count. Keep studying the multiplication facts and earning an ice cream sundae.
This week in ELA: It was so much fun seeing all the Book in a Box projects brought to school on Friday. We love seeing the student's creativity displayed in their learning. These projects will be presented in class each day. After grading, they will be sent home.
This week we will listen to Book in a Box presentations, compile our poetry into books, and continue our novel study on Bud Not Buddy. Students who need to complete another Good Cause Portfolio Assessment will do so on Thursday andFriday.
For homework, the students should begin reading their Biography and complete spelling homework. Because the biography project has many components, I am revising it and will be working on the written report with the students in class. They will be given a note taking form that will need to be completed by Sunday, May 7 and brought to school onMay 8th. We will use this form to help write the written reports. The students will still need to complete a small summary presentation and poster on their historical figure at home. I will send home the revised instructions and note taking form in their homework folders tomorrow. Please plan accordingly in managing time to read the book by Sunday, May 7th and then use the week of May 8th for the written summary, poster, and practicing the oral presentation at home. Because of the end of the grading period and needing time to grade, please know that NO late biography projects will be accepted.
This week in Science: We are continuing the Magic Tree House book study and are working on chapter 6-8.
As always…..THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

We're "swimming" into an exciting new year!
This year will be a new experience for our students, as they will be transitioning classes and having multiple core-subject teachers for the first time. We are excited to take them on this journey, and hope to make it an easy change that they will both enjoy and excel because of the transitions. Below you will find "housekeeping" items to help you as we begin this year.
- To make it easier on the students, we will have them take very little with them from room to room, and they will leave their backpacks in their homeroom class until the end of the day. Because of this, we recommended some duplicates on the school supply list. Do not worry if you are unable to obtain 100% of the items, but please let us know which items you need assistance with as we have a small amount of items set aside for students to share as a class set.
- Headphones are one item that we will have available for sharing in Math and Science classrooms. Their main pair will usually be left in ELA classroom as they will be used most often in that room. If you do not want your child to share, there are inexpensive options at the Dollar Tree or online. Last year's pair could also be an additional pair if they are still in working condition.
- We will also do our best to make the transitions as easy on our families as possible as well! Mrs. Harvey, Ms. Sawyer, and I will work together and coordinate as much as possible to make sure that students have the correct total amount of homework and that multiple projects will not be due at the same time. Our classroom policies are identical, and students will have the same behavioral expectations and opportunities for rewards in each class. If we overlook any conflicts, please feel free to communicate with us via email or agenda. (Agendas will be seen by all teachers each day.)
- Please review the Student/Parent Handbook and return the signed contract on the last 3 pages. Please also review and sign the Parent Packet pages from your homeroom teacher. (These policies are identical in every 3rd grade class and signing only one time is necessary to acknowledge these.) Keep these handy to refer to throughout the year.
- Please note: dress code requirements such as lengths and no spaghetti straps will still apply when we have non-uniform days like those during Spirit Week and other costume days.
